After a titanic battle Neil Davidson clinched the Men’s Singles Matchplay title with a superb victory over reigning champion Sean Moynihan. The match was won on the 18th after it had ebbed and flowed in the early afternoon. Soon after the turn Neil led four up. But Sean’s battling qualities came through like a true champion and he recovered to level the match on the 16th. The 17th went to Neil after two strong iron shots left him well positioned and forced a concession. The 18th proved tense and Neil had to sink a 20 footer for a bogey. Sean’s slightly shorter par put hit the back of the hole but stayed out. Such are the margins of victory.

So congratulations to both on a brilliant match, well done Sean on a brilliant title defence and well done Neil on becoming the 2018 Men’s Singles Matchplay champion. I am sure Club historians will be able to advise if he has become the Clubs youngest matchplay winner.
