Eamonns 39 shot thriller!

Alfred Hitchcock directed a thriller in 1935, I think Vinnie Byrne was at the premiere, called The 39 Steps. Still hugely regarded in the film world (the film that is!). Well last Saturday Eamonn Clifford produced a thriller of his own as he scorched around in the Mens Weekly Stableford with a gross 39 shots! Eamonn amassed 24 points, despite a domestic cut (on normal handicap it would have been 26 points) as he turned in a wonderful display of golf.

A brilliant round was book ended by birdies on 1 and 9. Pars on 3 and 7 underpinned Eamonns performance with the only blemish on the par 5 fourth. The field was left trailing in his wake as he romped to a brilliant win!

Spare a thought for Paul Hughes (32) who also produced a superb round of golf with 22 points. Pars on 1 and 9 with a further three pointer on 5 were the highlights of a blemish free round. Tough luck Paul but a great round nevertheless.

Pars on 1, 3 and 8 propelled Robert Campbell to 21 points and third place on countback. Just one blemish on the 2nd but despite a tremendous effort Robert just could not make that extra point needed to move up the podium.

Brilliant golf all round on a less than clement weekend weatherwise!
