President Alice had a busy weekend as the Ladies completed their Presidents Prize on Sunday. More brilliant and competitive golf!

Unfortunately I can no longer tag Bernie O'Brien (33) as Bernie "I am only a beginner" O'Brien, from now on it will have to be Bernie "I am a major winner" O'Brien. An explosive par 3 on the opening hole was followed by two more on 7 and 8 to see Bernie out in a nett 29. The back nine was a little less adventurous (depending on how you look at it) but a nett 41 was enough to leave Bernie at the top of the leader board with 70.

A remarkable back nine of nett 35 ensured Breda Boyle (33) sneaked into second place on countback with a nett 73. A brilliantly consistent nine brought Breda within touching distance of the lead but the gap was just too big to close as the round evolved.

Liz Walsh enjoyed the par threes managing to par all but one on the day. A brilliant outward nine of 34 had seen Liz challenging for the lead early on and she maintained her form until 15. Unfortunately, her swing deserted her on the final run in and she had to settle for the last podium place.

Congratulations to Mary Fetherston who won the Best Gross prize with an 85. A third hole birdie set Mary on her way and seven pars over the next fifteen holes ensured a gross 42 out and 43 back. Great golf Mary, well done!.

Marie Gleeson secured Class 1 with a nett 74, two shots clear of Cathriona Plunkett with Ita Redmond in third a further two shots back.

Another nett 74 won Class 2 for Roseann Regan with Deirdre Bruce taking second place on 79. Former Lady Captain Joan Keegan continued her recent fine form to take third place just one shot back.

Class 3 was equally as competitive with Rosaleen McGarry Lynch storming to first place with a nett 76, enough to edge out Pauline Murray just a shot behind. Nora Gillingam pushed hard for third place on 79 and just saw a couple of shots go astray on the closing holes.

The fourth and final class proved just as competitive as the rest Vivienne Delaney taking the honours with a nett 76, just one shot ahead of Sheila Delaney and four in front of Helena Kelly in second and third places respectively.

The prize for the front nine went to our last Lady President Therese McDonnell with a nett 36 while that same score was enough for Marie Moynihan to take the prize for the back nine.

I am sure Bernie is just as happy with the name change as she is with her first (I think) major victory, it was a great performance and thoroughly deserved. Any other beginners out there looking to take on a vacant tag? All volunteers/nominations will be considered!

Another amazing days golf to complete a remarkable weekend! Congratulations to all who participated and again thank you to President Alice for being a superb host!
