The Ladies final medal of the season proved momentuous as Catriona Plunkett (21) matched her victory in the July medal with a brilliant 72 in the Covid delayed June version of the event. Enough for a one shot win over Doreen Dempsey (24) in second place. As usual with a round of golf the story began on the first hole. Standing on the tee with her trusty six iron in her hand Catriona was focused on a steady start building to a charge towards yet another medal for the mantlepiece. That plan went out the window as her perfectly measured iron shot arced towards the front of the green, took two soft bounces and rolled gently into the centre of the hole for Catriona's first competitive ace. Cue much shouting and hollering and covidly appropriate virtual hugging (emphasis on virtual!). An unprecedented but wonderful start to a medal! Now the challenge was to dilute the adrenalin rush, but Catriona knows just how to achieve that. Solid and consistent golf followed albeit with slight wobbles on 7 and 8. These were brilliantly corrected at car park corner as pars on 9 and 10 put the medal charge back on track. Yet another par followed on 12 and then the solid, consistent golf returned as she ground her way to victory. Still room for a brilliant pitch to the middle of the 18th green, with two solid putts yielding yet another par for her winning 72.

Globetrotter Doreen spent her round playing catch up, as news of the leaders opening hole ace spread around the course. But catch up she did and in the end the final hole par for Catriona proved crucial. Despite a par on 3, Doreen turned in 38 just three behind the lead. Pars on 10 and 15 catapulted the diminutive Doreen right into contention but some mishaps on 17 just pushed the win out of reach. Nevertheless, back in a brilliant 35 and a 73 overall for a well deserved runner up spot.

Roseann Regan (32) snatched the final place on the podium with a net 74, just edging out Pauline Malone on countback. An outward 39 left Roseann with a lot to do but, like Doreen, she stormed home in pursuit of the leader coming back in 35. Again the 17th proved to be the rock on which her challenge finally foundered, but a super round all the same.

Just three shots separated the top seven with Val Carrigan, Eileen Ryan and Ita Redmond all posting net 75's underlining just how competitive this event proved to be. Brilliantly done ladies and congratulations to all that participated.

Unfortunately, I couldn't add sound to the photograph attached but if you use your imagination you can hear the screams!!
