Back competing................at last! Even if its just among ourselves!

As we know from back through history and the eons and eons of time, autumn turns to winter, winter turns to spring, non qualifiers turn to qualifiers........................and Ger Redmond puts down his marker for the season!! Playing on a balmy, dry Friday afternoon Ger returned to 18 hole competition like a salmon returning up river.

It was a sticky start though with just three points on the first three holes and only the salmon knows what happened on the third. But then he clicked into gear, the drives began to find the fairways, mid irons were firing golf balls like arrows from Robin Hood on speed! And on the greens the imperious Ger returned like a long lost gladiator. Consecutive pars followed from 4 to 6 and yet another on the 8th saw him out in 18 points. The second nine was a lot less frantic but pars on 11 and 16 returned 20 points as he turned in a flawless nine. A brilliant 38 points in the end for yet another victory and a huge portent of things to come. Congratulations Ger.

Just one point behind in second place we had a still bald, but beautifully coiffed Captain Jimmy. A calmer front nine for Jimmy until his Robin Hood alter ego emerged on 7 and 8. A par on 7 seemed standard for a golfer of Jimmy's known class but what followed on 8 was extraordinary. An unerring drive split the fairway followed by a pitching wedge to twelve feet set up a round defining birdie. Two more pars followed on the back nine but a dip on 14 and 15 proved costly in the end. Nevertheless, a super round of 37 points and battle lines have been drawn.

Five pars on the front nine put Shane Mallen in a solid position on Saturday morning on 20 points. Unfortunately, a slow start to the back nine proved costly but 34 points earned third place and Shane is another that Paddy Power will be keeing an eye on.

Barry McCall is asking the Course Committee to dig up the ninth hole. Seamus Power type golf from 1 to 8 and 10 to 17 turned into Honorary Secretary (2021 version) type golf on 9 and 18. Don't worry Barry it will be easier when it dries up!

A superb back nine of 17 points brought Eamonn Flynn onto the leaderboard. The third hole seemed to cause lots of problems on Friday and but for a couple of loose shots on 3 and 4 Eamonn may well have made it onto the podium. Another one on Paddy Powers radar!

Welcome back everyone to competitive golf. More reports to come.
