What a weekend! The Lady Vice Captains Prize and the Vice Captains Prize both played side by side and a real, live winners presentation in the sun. Magic!

The Lady Vice Captains prize proved to be a highly competitive battle. In the end Doreen Dempsey just edged out Monica Flood with a stupendous 41 points. Proving once and for all that less time on airplanes leads to much better golf Doreen had a quiet front nine. That is of course if you ignore a par on the 8th and two three pointers on 2 and 4. However, 18 points out showed no sign of the maelstrom of golf that she was about to unleash on the rest of the field. I can only assume that Nelly Korda was watching on her iPad.

Pars on 11 and 17 (yes 17, she clearly loves that hole) produced 8 points and three pointers on 13 and 16 powered her to victory. Blemish free as well she laid down the gauntlet to the rest of the field coming home with 23 points. Brian had to calm her down with a gin and tonic! Congratulations Doreen, a superb performance!

Doreen posted her score on Friday so the Saturday field knew the target. Talking of maelstroms Monica Flood set out chasing that target like Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone! Three pointers on 2, 4, 5 and 8 paled in comparison to a 4 on the 3rd for four points. A drive, a nine iron and two putts fueled the engine. An outward nine of 23 points (sounds familiar) put Monica well in the frame for victory. A par on 12 (Monica's favourite hole!) produced four points and it looked like Brian was going to have to produce another G & T for medicinal purposes. Another 3 points on 14 seemed to seal it but the 16th proved costly and Monica had to settle for 17 points back, just one short. A forty point round in the end but a really superb performance, well done Monica.

When the majors wonderland comes around Alice is usually there or thereabouts (McGlynn that is!) and this weekend proved to be no exception. Seventeen points out meant that the title was within reach and yet another maelstrom on the back nine (where did all these maelstroms come from, scary!!) with pars on 10 and 15 and further three pointers on 12, 14 and 18 produced 21 points and third place. Nice one Alice, I'm sure Martin (ex first gentleman) was very proud, thrilled even.

Best gross went to Marie Moynihan who produced five pars with a display of composed and controlled golf for a superb round. Congratulations Marie.

Congratulations also to all the Class winners, Therese McDonnell, Ellen King, Bernadette Campion and Christiane O'Sullivan. The winners of the nines were Patricia Fitzachary with 20 points on the front nine and Bionic Breda Boyle with 19 points on the back nine.

Well done also to all of the other winners, you know who you are, but I have cramp in my fingers now.

Another superb major, well done to Competition Secretary Nora and all who helped out. Yet another brilliant occasion, it is great to be back!
