Something in the air last weekend!

I have written to NASA to enquire if there was some strange kind of solar activity that impacted on the earths magnetic fields and affected the atmosphere above Kilmashogue Lane last weekend. With all due respect to our winners on Saturday and Sunday there was definitely something in the air.

I have always figured Joe Greene as being the quiet guy waiting in the rough to strike and strike hard. You know the type, Bernhard Langer with an Irish accent. Well last Saturday was that day! Not one point dropped on his outward nine and just one dropped on his card on the 13th where he had the temerity to double bogey. Twenty three points out and twenty three points back, forty six (yes 46!) points in total. Three points on 2, a par on 5, another three points on 7 and another par on 9 was the product of spectacular golf. Pars on 11, 14 and 15 together with three points on 17 swept Joe to a swashbuckling victory! Well done Joe, a truly brilliant round which re-sets the target we all aspire to!

You would think that 46 points would have left the competition way back in the distance. Well I guess you will have to think again. In second place we had one of our newest and one of our youngest (in fairness you don't have to be that young) members, Marcus Murphy. As Marcus was walking off the 18th green he would have been forgiven for thinking he was in the winners enclosure, 45 points is pretty good after all. Then he met Joe!!!

Twenty three points on the way out with pars on 2, 3, 4, 8 and 9. He could even afford to drop a point on 6. Should have used the lob wedge off the tee Marcus! Only 22 points on the way back. A birdie on 11 was the key highlight but three pointers on 16 and 17 and a par on 18 were not too shabby either. So another astonishing round and as I type I still can't grasp the fact that he only finished second!

So in third place with a paltry 40 points (sorry Barry) on countback, we had the in form Barry McCall. With a creditable 19 points in the bag on the way out Barry's round ignited with a par on 10 and he followed that up with further pars on 12 and 13 and three pointers on 16 and 17. Twenty one points out and on most other weeks since our return I would be calling Barry as the winner. Great round Barry, one that we all aspire to. I definitely blame those solar bursts for your third place!

Matt Spain found himself with 40 points and outside the prizes, unbelievable! I would launch a protest with NASA if I was you Matt!

However, if you accept my theory please read on when the Sunday report appears!
